Rammies: the next evolution in blindboxes. Since the rise of Smiskis, Sonny Angels, and Labubus, we've
seen an increase in blind box products. Rammies aims to capitalize on this trend and bring robotics into
the modern culture. This is what I've been working on to bring the same experience into my school as a
fundraiser for Robotics
Summer 2025; I brought the idea up to some friends. I eventually made these 2d skecthes and
illustrations as a proof of concept. We spent hours making their color schemes and names. I even printed
out this poster!
Bringing the designs into Onshape, I tried to faithfully recreate the sketches. The idea was to make it a 2D keychain which could be cut through the CNC Machine onto wood. The pieces would then be hand painted to create a final product. However, we did have some concerns over the overall appeal. While I still find the original idea cute, I felt that a physical toy like this only works as a 3D object. Thus, I had to make another sketch.
August/September: I was able to design a 3D CADD drawing of the Rammie for 3D Printing. I've never
modeled something like this before and I took inspiration from what I saw online. Alongside it came
another batch of sketches with the same colors and faces. This was honestly a worthwhile change and led
to a much more appealing character. It felt like a real product and I got the support and reactions I
hoped for by my peers and friends.
September/October: Going back to school, I finally had access to a 3D printer and our engineering room.
I had more time to work on this project and a way of looking at my designs in real settings. This is the
first model printed. Half an apple juice tall! It still had some issues, namely the weird printing below
its head due to overhang and the attena breaking off due to its weak support. Still, it was a nice test
run that showed there's still room for improvement.
The next week, I printed a new one with the suggestions received after the first printing. I fixed some
of the weird printing by making the body larger and changing the printing pattern. The antenna was also
strengthened. There's still more to do and more to improve as always, but I love this prototype a lot.
See how it looks next to the bob and the mushroom? Very cute :D
I'm currently working towards getting the printing approved for fundraising. I'm looking for around 100 prints right now. We also still have to design the packaging and figure out what periods people can sell them. There's been some other ideas we'd love to bring, such as key-cap heads, phone clips, and extra accessories. I'll keep this page update with everything I work on involing the Rammies. If you wanna see all the color variations and sketches, check the art page.
